Hello? Summer? Are you there?

As we write this, we are staring out the window, yearning for some sunshine and heat.  We’re pretty sure our many pairs of espadrilles and floaty summer dresses are doing the same.

So in the spirit of the childhood game “Red Rover” – we chant:

“Red rover, red rover, we call summer over!”

We are so confident that our cries will be heard that we have concocted this blog post with a focus on a chic weekend bbq.  And should they be ignored, well then, hey!  Who needs sun when you’ve got pink Sangria!

Pink Summer Sangria Recipe:


Pink Sangria

  • 1 bottle of rose wine
  • 3 peaches, chopped
  • 2 cups of watermelon, chopped
  • 1/2 cup of sliced strawberries
  • 2 tbsp’s of limoncello
  • 2 cups of sparkling lemonade
  • 2 cups of crushed ice

Pour the wine into a large glass pitcher and add the fruit pieces and limoncello.  Let sit for 30 minutes to allow flavours to infuse.  Just before serving, add the lemonade and crushed ice.  Stir gently before serving.

Watermelon “Cupcakes”



  • 8 cupcake liners
  • 8 “cupcake” shaped pieces of seedless watermelon
  • 2 cups of pineapple cream cheese frosting
  • Sprinkles for garnish

Place the liners in an 8-cup cupcake tin.  Cut 3-inch thick slices of seedless watermelon.  Cut round cupcake sized pieces from the slices and place into each liner.  Place a dollop of frosting on each cupcake and decorate as desired with sprinkles.
